  • On Friday, 28th June 2024, Etch Communications was proud to support @depaul_ireland as they celebrated the incredible work of their Peer Advocates at the Homeless Health Peer Advocacy (HHPA) Recognition event. It was an honour to have @colmburke_td, Minister of State for Health, Wellbeing and National Drug Strategy attend alongside Depaul CEO David Carroll and Peer Advocate Sinéad Flynn.

This event also marked the expansion of their HHPA programme into the Cork region, furthering Depaul’s commitment to improving health outcomes for individuals experiencing homelessness. These advocates are vital in helping others navigate healthcare services, ensuring those in need receive the care they deserve.

Depaul Ireland is making a difference, one peer advocate at a time. For more information about the HHPA programme and Depaul’s life-changing initiatives, please visit their website.

Thanks ot the team Video Works on this HHPA programme awareness video, Provision Photography on the photocall, and all the team at Cork City Hall on the HHPA event. As always, it was our pleasure to work with the incredible team at Depaul, who change lives and have a massive impact every day.

  • Healthy Homes Ireland, supported by the Irish Green Building Council and VELUX, today hosted a breakfast event in Dublin that unveiled research showing the scale of the impact of healthy homes on people’s mental and physical well-being.

Pictured at the event is Kevin O’Rourke, Chair of Healthy Homes Ireland and Dr Caroline Düvier from BPIE who delivered a thought-provoking presentation on the 2024 Barometer. They were joined by panellists Dr Ola Løkken Nordrum, Irish Doctors for the Environment, Dr Marie Coggins of the University of Galway, Susan Vickers of Clúid Housing and Simon Jones from Air Quality Matters.

The Europe-wide publication highlighted some concerning findings, including:

- The renovation rate required for Ireland is +2900%, whereas the EU needs to achieve +1400%.
- There has been a 22% increase in damp issues in Ireland.
- Around 275,000 citizens in Ireland do not have sufficient daylight in their homes - across the EU, the figure stands at 30 million citizens.
- 25% of Europeans live in buildings where the indoor air quality falls below national standards.
- On a positive note, there was a 13.5% decrease in CO2 emissions in Ireland from 2015 to 2020.

The Healthy Buildings Barometer has been published annually by the VELUX group and its research partners since 2015 to take the pulse of the EU’s housing stock. This year’s research was undertaken by BPIE (Building Performance Institute Europe) and complements Healthy Homes Ireland’s report which was published last year and made specific policy recommendations for Ireland.

As well as TDs and Senators, attendees at today’s Healthy Homes Ireland briefing included civil and public servants from relevant government departments and agencies, as well as industry leaders from housing, construction, engineering, architecture, public health, the environment and academia.

Did you know over 450,000 people in Ireland live with asthma, and 80% of them also deal with hay fever? A recent survey by @asthmasocietyofireland showed that 76% of people with hay fever say it limits their or their child’s daily activities, especially during sports and outdoor fun.
